Response Assignment #1:

Due September 11th (minimum 2 pages):

Write a minimum of 2 pages (using proper formatting) about your earliest recollections that involved reading and writing. Use some (or all) of the questions below to help guide you in responding to this assignment:

  1. What was the setting or settings of these experiences? Where did you first learn to read and/or write? At school? At home? At a grandparent's house?
  2. Do you recall who taught you? And how this person or set of people taught you? Were you rewarded for your efforts? or were you made to sit and read and/or write "or else!" Elaborate . . .
  3. Looking back, what do you first remember reading? (It's probably not what you actually first read, but what sticks out in your head?) And what do you first remember writing? (I remember drawing pictures for my father and writing little accompanying stories, for example.)
  4. What feelings, if any, do these memories evoke? Elaborate . . .

** Again, be sure that you provide an example or two (a past experience, a past incident, or some example of some favorable or unfavorable writing moment from your past, to give your audience a better understanding of what you are talking about). Most often, you might write, "for example, when I was . . ." or "Once, for example, when I wrote . . .".
