Response Assignment #5:

In response to Reading for Oct. 4th

Due Oct. 4th (minimum 2 pages):

Write a 2 minimum page reflection piece about your thoughts on "Self Portrait" in South Loop Review, using the following questions below to help guide your response:

  1. After reading "Self Portrait," was the story, in fact, a "self portrait," as the title suggests? why? or why not?

  2. What do you think was the author's main point? Did she have one? Why or why not? Give examples.

  3. Was the author convincing? Why or why not?

  4. Was her writing engaging? Did you find it interesting to read? Could you relate to some or all of the writing? (Like what? give example/s) Did you find yourself laughing or chuckling at any point? (give examples - where?)

  5. What was it about the story and/or the author's style of storytelling that made it either easier or more difficult to read? give examples!

  6. Who was she writing to? And did you find this a useful tactic? How did this make you feel as a reader?

  7. Overall, did you think she was a good writer? WHY? GIVE EXAMPLES AND EXPLAIN!

** Always, always back up your thoughts with some example, quote, or explanation.
