Weekly Response #4:

DUE NEXT WEEK (February 23rd): After reading Croce, Carol Oates, and Emlinger, and engaging in class discussions on “victim” and “issue-oriented” art, describe in 2-3 pages what your overall feelings/thoughts are about what you've read, these genres, the issues brought up, the arguments, and/or whatever comes to the surface as you start to write. Write in journal or letter form.

It is perfectly alright if you are at the point where you are left with more questions than answers after reading so many varied readings/texts, but elaborate on what those questions are, and why. Below are some questions you could consider, if you want:

• What do you feel like you understand or don't understand? Elaborate.

• Do you agree or disagree with any one of the authors? Why or why not?

• Were you feeling one way and then changed your mind after reading someone else's argument? When? How? Why?

• Have you come into contact with or have you ever created any kind of “victim” or “issue-oriented” art that you are just now considering or thinking about in a different way? Elaborate.

• Has any of the reading or class discussion made you think about how you might approach any future art-making project? How? Why?

** Always, always back up your thoughts with some example, quote, or explanation.
